The next Community Day in Pokemon GO is Nickit, and it runs on Sunday, August 16 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm local time. As always, the point of the day is volume: Nickit shows up far more often than normal for three hours, and the chance of a Shiny one goes up with it.

The move is the real prize

Evolve a Nickit into Thievul during the event and it learns Icy Wind, a move you cannot get on it any other way.

This is the part people miss on their first Community Day, so it is worth being plain about it: the exclusive move is tied to when you evolve, not when you caught the Pokemon. A Nickit you caught last year still works. Evolve it in the window and it gets the move.

The window is a little longer than the event itself. Encounters from Lure Modules keep going until 9:00pm, so if you are late finishing, you still have a few hours to sort your evolutions out.

What to do in the three hours

  1. Catch first, sort later. Do not stop to check every Nickit's stats during the event. Catch as many as you can and pick your keeper afterwards.
  2. Evolve before 9:00pm. Set a reminder. This is the single mistake that costs people the whole day.
  3. Save one Shiny unevolved if you collect. Shiny Nickit and Shiny Thievul count as separate entries.

Is it worth clearing your Sunday?

That depends on what you want. Nickit and Thievul are not top-tier battlers, so if you only play for raids and league battles, this is a quiet month for you. If you collect Shinies, a Community Day is the cheapest three hours you will ever spend on one — the odds during the event are far better than on a normal day.

Community Day details are set by the developer and occasionally change before the day itself. Check inside the app on the morning of the event before making plans.
