Max Mondays are the one hour each week when Power Spots fill up with a new Dynamax Pokemon. Every session runs from 6:00pm to 7:00pm local time, and the Pokemon changes every week. Dexerto has the full list for August, and it is a good month if you are chasing Shiny forms — every single one this month can be Shiny.

The August line-up

WeekPokemonShiny possible
August 3–9Dynamax MagmarYes
August 10–16Dynamax BeldumYes
August 17–23Dynamax MagikarpYes
August 24–30Dynamax HitmontopYes
August 31 – September 6Dynamax EeveeYes

Shiny Magmar is worth a look on its own: instead of the usual orange, it comes out pink.

What you actually get for turning up

Three things happen on a Monday that do not happen on other days:

  • One Rare Candy XL for finishing a Max Battle in person
  • Power Spots refresh more often, so you get more attempts in the hour
  • More Power Spots are active than on a normal weekday

The in-person part matters. The Rare Candy XL bonus is tied to battling at a real Power Spot, not from your sofa, so this is an event built to get people outside for an hour.

How to plan the hour

One hour is short, and Max Battles are slow if you fight them alone. Two simple rules help:

  1. Find a cluster before six. Two or three Power Spots within a short walk beats one good one.
  2. Bring people. Max Battles scale badly with a small group, and a busy spot in a park will fill up on its own at 6pm.

If you only care about one week this month, make it August 31. Dynamax Eevee is the one most people will want, and it rolls into the first week of September, so you get two Mondays at it.

Event times and bonuses in Pokemon GO are set by the developer and sometimes change after they are announced. Check inside the app before you plan a trip around a specific bonus.
