Pokemon Winds and Waves is the most wanted game in Japan right now

Readers of Famitsu put the 2027 Pokemon pair at number one in the magazine's most wanted chart, ahead of everything else on Nintendo Switch 2.

Pokemon Winds and Pokemon Waves sit at number one in the latest Famitsu most wanted chart, published on August 9. Xenoblade Genesis keeps climbing behind them.

Famitsu's chart is a reader vote, not a sales figure. People write in and say what they are looking forward to. That makes it a poor guide to how many copies a game will sell and a very good guide to what Japan is actually excited about.

Why the top spot matters this far out

The games do not come out until 2027. Sitting at number one more than a year ahead of release, with no region shown, no starters revealed and no month announced, tells you the demand is for the name alone.

That is the part worth noticing. Japanese readers are voting for two titles and a console. Everything that normally drives excitement — the new Pokemon, the new map, the new gimmick — has not been shown yet.

What it says about Switch 2

Winds and Waves are Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives. Every mainline Pokemon generation before them launched on hardware that was already in tens of millions of homes. This pair does the opposite: it arrives early in a console's life, which makes it a reason to buy the machine rather than a reward for owning one.

A chart-topping most wanted result is exactly the signal Nintendo would want a year out. It suggests a chunk of the audience is holding out for Pokemon before upgrading.

What is still unknown

Almost everything. Region, starters, the box legendaries, a release month, a price, and whether there is a season pass are all unannounced. The realistic window for real detail is the anniversary presentation in late February 2027.

Our Winds and Waves guide keeps every confirmed fact in one place and gets updated whenever something official lands.

Famitsu's most wanted list is a vote by the magazine's readers in Japan. It measures interest, not pre-orders and not sales, and it does not tell you anything about demand in the United States.
